Taylor was raised in a working class family on a farm in rural west Tennessee. He grew up proud of his Dad and the way he would come in from the cow barn with steam rising off him in the early morning, but he also remembers the way that other folks made him feel shame for not having enough. After leaving his hometown for college, he started to open his eyes to ways that those at the top rig the system to keep poor and working people down. Now he works at Tennessee’s flagship university and spends his days finding scholarship money for students who grew up poor or working class just like he did. Over the years he’s put a lot of work into embracing his roots and rejecting the shame he used to feel. He’s now a proud Dad of 2 young kids.
